About SIM and SIMAIR
In 1902, Rowland Bingham headed a team of three missionaries into the
interior of Nigeria to evangelize after malaria had taken the lives of
several others on previous trips. The Lord blessed Mr. Bingham's efforts and
a mission base was established 500 miles inland. Thus, over 100 years ago,
the Sudan Interior Mission was born. Since then the Lord has blessed SIM's
missionary efforts, and over 5,000 local churches have been established,
millions of people have come to saving faith in Jesus Christ, and many
physical needs have been met as well. Many other ministries such as
hospitals, Bible translation, literacy programs, Bible schools,
reforestation projects, community healthcare, and an aviation program have
been established through SIM. In recent years three other evangelical
missions have joined forces with SIM: the International Christian
Fellowship (ICF), the Andes Evangelical Mission (AEM), and, most recently in
1998, the Africa Evangelical Fellowship (AEF). SIM, now "Serving In
Mission," is an international mission organization with more than 1,400
missionaries serving in over 40 countries primarily in Africa, Asia, and
South America. SIM missionaries represent over 30 nationalities and come
from more than 50 denominations. Further information about SIM is available
at our website www.sim.org.
SIM's purpose is to glorify God by planting, strengthening, and partnering
with churches around the world as we evangelize the unreached, minister to
human need, disciple believers into churches, and equip churches to fulfill
Christ's Commission.
Around 1950, it became apparent that an aviation program was needed in
Nigeria. Missionaries ministering in remote places needed the planes, not
only for normal transportation needs, but also for the medical emergencies
that would arise. In 1973, the aviation program was expanded to Niamey,
Niger. For these 50 years SIMAIR has been serving the Lord by providing
safe and efficient air transportation to personnel from SIM, other Christian
mission groups, and occasionally, to other organizations. SIMAIR also
serves missionaries in other countries, such as Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali,
Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Chad.
